The Four Rules of Hosting
- Continuity: It can be difficult to share and engage when things feel transient. To help people open up and think together freely, Interintellect events emphasize continuity. For any standalone salon, there is space to continue the discussion in our community forum on Discord, and salon series get their own channels. The community space helps attendees build lasting connections and facilitates depth in their intellectual exploration.
- Imperfect Host: To make events accessible to any level of knowledge, we encourage hosts to be happily imperfect! We don’t teach, lecture, or give talks. A host is there to facilitate a conversation and to make sure all the important angles are covered, that everyone who has something to share is heard, and that everyone has a good experience.
- Ritual Space: Spaces of comfortable repetition allow people to open up. In an Interintellect event, you arrive, you intro, and you relax into the topic and your own realizations. Hosts are responsible for conducting the room in this spirit of hospitable reliability.
- Anchoring to Truth: We start each event with a ritualistic prompt question. However complicated, personal or “hot button” the topic of the night is, we start with the truth about ourselves and our experiences. Starting from this point of trust, transparency, and patience enables worries and suspicions to switch off, too.
I. Continuity
The Importance of Lasting Connections:
Interintellect salons prioritize building ongoing relationships rather than one-off encounters. Recognizing the early 21st-century challenge of fleeting connections, our events are designed to foster long-term engagement and community integration.
Creating a Cohesive Community:
Salons and hosts have channels in our Discord server, ensuring participants can continue discussions and deepen connections. For series events, subsequent dates are clearly communicated via Discord and email, inviting continuous participation.
Fostering Openness and Engagement:
This approach enhances the sense of security and belonging, encouraging attendees to freely share thoughts and emotions, contributing to a dynamic and supportive community environment.
II. Imperfect Host
Accessibility and Inclusivity:
Interintellect salons welcome participants of all knowledge levels by maintaining an atmosphere where hosts facilitate rather than lecture. Preliminary reading and active participation are encouraged, but no advanced expertise is required.
Facilitation Role:
Hosts ensure all perspectives are considered and every participant has an opportunity to contribute, fostering a laid-back and collaborative environment.
Service-Oriented:
Interintellect hosts are positioned alongside, not above, attendees within the salon, serving as fellow learners who guide meaningful conversations in a friendly and inclusive manner.
