Interintellect events are held in the spirit of multidisciplinarity, openness, opinion plurality, curiosity, and patience. Their goal is to engage and entertain – allowing those present to dig deeper into the topic, and revealing new questions that might merit their own future events to discuss. Participants are given undivided attention without any one of them taking up more time than the others. You can read more about our events’ ethos in [The Five Rules of Gathering].
House Rules
Our events are live, with attendees from different continents, time zones, cultures, professions, and world views. To help make the experience joyful for all involved, here are some common sense rules that facilitate supportive and considerate behavior:
- Being on Time: Please arrive on time for the event. If you need to take a break or leave early, give your host a heads up (if online, via direct chat message).
- Participation: Interintellect events are participatory and your host will be making efforts so that all those present get equal time and space to speak, elaborate, and ask questions. Please be patient until your turn.
- Mic and Video: Please have your mic muted whenever you’re not speaking, and your camera on whenever you are. If for some reason you can’t have your camera on, let your host know. It is up to the host’s discretion whether to accept camera-off participation.
- Recordings: Most events are not recorded, with the exception of SuperSalons. Other events may be recorded and will note that in the event description, and hosts should notify attendees at the beginning of the event as well. For members-only events, the recording will only be available to Interintellect members. For SuperSalons, these may go on our YouTube channel.
- Photos and Screenshots: Your host may take a photo (if IRL) or screenshot of the conversation (if online) and share this on Interintellect-owned channels. If you prefer not to appear in these, please notify your host.
- Goodwill: Please use common sense when talking or writing in the chat about topics that could make the experience unpleasant for fellow attendees.
- Age Restriction: Occasionally, an event with potentially sensitive or distressing content may carry an 18+ age restriction.
Grounds for Removal from an Event
- Illegal Activity: Engaging in unlawful activity or promoting illegal acts will lead to your removal from the event space or video call.
- Intellectual Property Infringement: Unless clearly authorized by the owner, refrain from sharing entire books, albums, movies, etc.
- Breach of Privacy: Each participant has full power over how much personal information they wish to share. Any sharing of personal information about someone without their permission will lead to your removal from the event.
- Hate Speech: There is no room for attacks based on race, gender, religion, nationality, ethnicity, political group, sexual orientation, or disability—against fellow participants or anyone. Any such act will lead to your removal from the event.
- Harassment and Bullying: Abusive language or repeated unwanted contact will lead to your removal from the event.
- Nudity: Sexually explicit material will be removed and lead to your removal from the event.
By joining our events, you have agreed to the conditions outlined above.
